Another Background

Change the background of your PSP ? Just change the month at the "Date And Time" settings screen.

January: Silver
February: Yellow / Orange
March: Light Green
April: Pink
May: Green
June: Purple
July: Teal
August: Blue
September: Darker Purple
October: Orange
November: Brown
December: Red

Avoiding Update Problems

If you want to update your PSP, have the charge level to maximum. The PSP will not update at a one or two bar charge level. If the battery fails and the update does not complete, your PSP will not be able to start the main menu. Your music, videos, and pictures will be gone, and your PSP will only be able to play games.

Brighter Screen

You have four options on your screen brightness when you have your AC adapter plugged in. You regularly have three, but the fourth add on is a brighter one. So if you want a brighter screen and have access to an outlet and happen to have your AC adapter handy, then you know what to do. Just press the screen button until you get the brightest screen.

Change Background Faster

If you have firmware version 2.0 or higher, go to 'Settings' then 'Theme Settings'. Choose 'Theme' and select any background color.

Changing Game Background and Save Icons

Whenever you save a game, one or two pictures are created on your memory stick:

ICON#.PNG - The 144.80 icon displayed when you select your saved file. The #, normally 0, may be higher if a game places multiple saves in one folder.
PIC1.PNG - The 480x272 background that\'s displayed when you cursor over your save or game disk.

Knowing this, you can customize your save icons and backgrounds by simply replacing them with new .PNG files. However, make sure that you keep the new file less than or equal to the original file\'s resolution, or the PSP will cut off sections to make it fit.

Here\'s a step by step for changing a game\'s save icon:
1) Connect your PSP to your PC
2) Find the save file you want to change. All saves are located in the \\PSP\\SAVEDATA\\ folder, separated into separate subfolders to keep necessary files together.
3) Once you\'ve found the save icon you want to change, add .ori to the end of the file name, in case you ever want to change it back.
4) Resize the image you want as your save icon to 144x80 and save it as a .PNG named ICON#.PNG (where # was the number found on the file you renamed).
5) Move the new picture into your target save folder.

Now, whenever you see your save on your PSP, its icon will be the picture you moved over! Use the same method to change PIC1.PNG files to your own custom pictures, but remember that the resolutions must be at most 480x272.

Charge from PlayStation 2

Get a USB cable that includes a charging cable normally used to charge your PSP through your PC. Plug the cable into the USB port on a PlayStation 2 and the other end into the PSP. Turn the PlayStation 2 on. The orange charging indicator on your PSP should light up.

Full Screen Wallpaper

If you have firmware version 2.0 or greater and are using a picture as your wallpaper, use the following trick if you have space to the left and right of the screen that the picture does not cover. To get rid of that space, go into the 'Photos' section and view the picture you want to use. Zoom in on it until the picture takes up the entire screen, then press Triangle and choose 'Set as wallpaper'. When you exit back to the main menu, your picture will now take up the entire screen.

Listen To Music Without Having To Stay On The Icon

Press Select after choosing a song. It will remain playing on your main screen, so you can go and look at your background or go to games as the PSP still plays the music. However, if you click on an icon it will stop playing. If you click again, it will go into the selected icon.

Play A Multi-player Game Using Only One Umd

Start the game as usual. Go into Ad Hoc mode. Create a game. Do any extra options but do not start the game yet. Take the UMD out and answer 'No' at the quitting menu. Put the UMD in the second PSP. Choose 'Join Game'. Do not start yet. Put the UMD back in the first PSP. Then, select 'Start Game'. Put the UMD back in the second PSP and choose 'Start Game'.

Soft Reset

To reset a game, hold L + R + Start. Some games will take you to the title screen and others may take you to the main menu.
