Go to the options screen before starting the game. Change the difficulty to easy to get four lives instead of two.
Hint: Treasure room
Jump on the blocks just before the first palm tree on the first level, Rookie Town. Alex will break them and drop into an area full of chests and four enemies.
Skip Boss Sequences
In order to skip rock, paper, and scissors sequences, you must wait until the conversation with the boss has ended. After that, Press start to get to the options screen, then press start again and you should skip the sequence.
